Curcumin - Promising Help for Chronic Pain

A family member suffers from arthritis and was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The doctor prescribed a pain medication which helps to some extent, but doesn’t provide relief for very long, so I talked to a very knowledgeable woman in the health food store I shop in, and explained what he’s going through. She recommended curcumin. This is the active component found in turmeric, a spice that’s been used for over 2000 years for its healing properties. To understand how curcumin works, you have to understand what causes pain. A chronic condition such as arthritis can be at the root of the pain, but often other factors are involved which increase it. they could be hormonal, caused by poor nutrition, or quite commonly, from lack of sleep.

When nerve endings become irritated, pain results. traditional pain relievers can cause side effects that make the condition worse. Curcumin has several healing properties. It’s anti inflammatory, it’s a good anti oxidant, and has been found to be effective in breaking up cancerous cells. the potential of this remedy is enormous, and although in the early stages, several studies are being conducted on the effectiveness and safety of curcumin. It’s been reported to help arthritis pain, swelling, and inflammation, and has also helped patients with post surgical pain and inflammation. Research is also being done to find out how effective curcumin could be in treating Alzheimer’s.

I have personally tried curcumin for an old knee injury that bothers me occasionally, and noticed a considerable reduction in the pain after just trying it the first time, and we have found that after trying it for fibromyalgia, the pain has lessened, and isn’t as intense.
